AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY

PROPOSALS by IFIA-AFRICA
(Geneva, June 8, 2000)
KENYA
Inventors and Innovators Association of Kenya
1. To inform the relevant
government offices.
2. That Pyramid symbol be adopted to commemorate the day.
3. That the millenium celebrations should be conducted in the pyramids.
4. That persistent and credible community technologies all over Africa be collected for
exhibition on that day with participation of their users.
5. That a set of proposals be prepared and sent out to all countries so that their
solutions and awards may be given on the occasion (Sept. 13 - every year).
6. That IFIA-Africa prepares a scheme in which the joint celebrations of the day are
conducted on a rotational basis as a means to sensitise people on IP in different
countries.
7. That all IP offices including WIPO be informed to participate in the occasion.
8. That a set of simple alternative solutions be prepared for children/participants as a
means to expand their scope in seeking solutions to problems.
9. That the celebrations should be accompanied with one week of IFIA-Africa annual
activities as a means to cost saving.
10. That a survey be done so that an award scheme is given to those who excel in IP areas
and talent exploitation.
LIBYA
International Energy Foundation (IEF)
It is suggested here that an exhibition be organized of African
inventions and competitions be arranged for awards to be granted on this day in one of the
African countries supported/sponsored by donor companies, firms, institutions, etc. A
theme is arranged for the inventions in each of these annual competitions for one subject,
e.g., Desertification, AIDS, Environment, Water Resources etc., serving the African
causes.
The IEF is available for logistic support of this proposal in cooperation with IFIA and
other relevant participation.
BENIN

I. Sur le plan national : la participation active par la
représentation des associations d'inventeurs au Conseil Economique et Social.
II. Sur le plan inter-étatique en Afrique :
1. un Parlement des inventeurs et innovateurs en Afrique sous l'égide de l'OUA, un
"Brain Trust" invention;
2. la prolongation de la durée de vie et de gardiennage des inventions brevetées à
l'OAPI. Les frais de gardiennage des brevets subventionnés à 100% à la charge de
l'Etat, c.-à-d. entièrement;
3. la création d'un Comité interafricain d'étude et d'amélioration des inventions
brevetées et d'un jury assermenté d'inventeurs;
4. une bourse d'étude et de recherche pour les inventeurs conformes et sans distinction
d'âge ou de sexe pour le suivi.

Association nigérienne pour la Promotion de l'Invention
et de l'Innovation (ANPII)
L'idée retenue au niveau de la majorité des sections de notre
association est que la journée africaine soit une journée consacrée à honorer la
mémoire des inventeurs illustres de la localité, du pays et du Continent. Que toutes les
radios et télévisions consacrent au moins deux heures de grande écoute à sensibiliser
les populations sur l'utilité de l'invention et aussi à honorer la mémoire des
pionniers, vivants ou disparus. Cela incitera les jeunes à vouloir suivre leurs traces et
réconfortera les pionniers de leur vivant même, de se voir honorés pour tous les
sacrifices qu'ils ont enduré pour la cause.
