1.  The Invention

Title MAZES ON THE EARTH PROJECTED ON A POLYHEDRON NET

The problem the inventor(s) wanted to solve

A maze (labyrinth) on the Earth is given, where the walls consist of part of graticule (the meridians and parallels). The maze is projected on a polyhedron which is then unfolded into a net.

Description.

Polyhedron maps are well known since 1913 when J.S. Cahill patented his butterfly map. Now we supply a polyhedron map of the Earth with a maze. This solutions are excellent teaching aids for scholars to learn geometry and geography, also to train space visualization.

Presentation

The invention is a paper net to be folded into a polyhedron (Platonic solids and Archimedean solids). Also other materials (plastic …) could be used for the products.

Fields of application

To be used in education to develop children’s space visualization and learning geometry and geography.

Advantages

Solving such mazes makes geography and geometry more interesting and fun.

Stage of development.

Computer program for producing mazes.
