COMMENCES AT
QATAR
UNIVERSITY
Research is the cornerstone of progress, driving advancements in every field and
discipline. It is the unwavering commitment to exploration and the insatiable thirst
for knowledge that fuel the fires of discovery, leading us to breakthroughs that
have the potential to revolutionize our society. The 5th Summer Research Internship
Program was officially inaugurated on 11th June 2023, Sunday in the esteemed
presence of Prof. Mariam Ali Al – Maadeed, the Vice President of Research and
Graduate Studies (VPRGS). The event was also presided over by dignitaries and
industry leaders from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Qatar Petrochemical
Company (QAPCO), but this year witnessed a large participation with 256 students
in 37 projects.
Prof. Mariam Ali Al – Maadeed officiated the event’s opening, inspiring the partici-
pating students with the importance of internships in nation-building and meeting
the labor requirements.
The inaugural ceremony also organized an orientation session by Dr. Zubair Ah-
mad, Head of the Module Development and Publications department, at the Qatar
University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC). The session also enlightened the at-
tendees on the facts and figures of the program and details on different tracks
and participating projects. Like last year’s successful tracks, this year’s program
comprises track 1, an outcomes-directed intensive research program, track 2, re-
search & training focused, and track 3, external projects by HMC and QAPCO. The
inaugural day also facilitated a very informative talk by Mr. Abdel Hakim Bishawi,
IFIA Magazine Septeber 2023 Prof. Noora J. Al-Thani, Director of Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUY-
Acting Head of the Research and Instructions Section, on the topic “Qatar Univer-
sity Library: Learning Spaces, Services, and Resources” for the students.
SC), conveyed best wishes to the students and stated that “the program is vital in
strengthening the young talent pool from multi-diverse backgrounds by developing
competencies necessary to survive, adapt, and thrive in a fast-changing world,
hence successfully contributing to QU Strategic Goals 2018-2023 and Qatar Na-
32 tional Vision 2030 through capacity-building”.
