IFIA DIRECTOR MEETS WIPO DIRECTOR
GENERAL IN BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA
The WIPO Director General, Mr. Francis Gurry paid a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina on
Wednesday and Thursday, 14 and 15 March 2018. On the first day, he held meetings with Mr.
Bakir Izetbegović, member of BiH Presidency, Mr. Mirko Šarović, BiH Minister for Economy
and Foreign Trade, and Mr. Josip Merdžo, General Director of BiH Institute for Intellectual
Property. Protection of intellectual property generally and, especially, branding of autoch-
thones agricultural products of BiH were the principal subjects of these exchanges of views.
The next day, March 15, Mr. Gurry had a meeting with the university academicians, students
and professors in the Faculty of Mechanic Engineering in Sarajevo. He organized a confer-
ence titled “Intellectual Property in Modern Economy”, stressing role of branding in modern
times.
As the conference finished, Mr. Husein Hujić, IFIA Director, approached Mr. Gurry expressing
him welcome to Sarajevo and reminding that he had hosted and offered lunch in his WIPO
“round corner restaurant” to the delegations of IFIA some years ago.
Mr. Francis Gurry expressed sincere satisfaction for that unexpected and unconventional
meeting, and thanked Mr. Husein Hujić for the IFIA pencil he offered.
